Hi, my name is Ardath! I am a native Texan and feel blessed to live in this beautiful state. I was a faculty member at the University of Texas-Pan American (now UTRGV) where I taught biology for 22 years, before retiring in 2011. While teaching there, I was able to co-illustrate a book on the grasses of the lower Rio Grande Valley with an art professor, the late Dr. Norm Browne, and work with my major professor who was the author, Dr. Robert Lonard. Upon retirement, I now have time to do art as much as I would like! My husband's retirement gift to me was remodeling our guest bedroom into an art room, and my first gift to myself was to take a stained glass class and later a mosaics class. I got hooked on the beauty of glass, and had an additional artistic outlet to add to drawing. Besides art, my husband, Don, and I keep busy with church ministry and activities with friends. I love to draw from life--birds, fish, plants, insects, and other animals. I also enjoy doing custom portraits from photos, both people and pets. Mosaic pieces are so much fun, too and I enjoy creating my own designs or I can create a piece for you from broken dishes that you want to recycle into a meaningful keepsake! Feel free to contact me if you have comments, questions, or wish to commission a work. Thanks!
I live in the Rio Grande Valley of South Texas with my husband, Don
and our indoor cats, Britney and Frosty, and our outdoor cat, Naber.
